Indiana Town Shuts Coal Power Plant In Favor Of Solar Farm

The new solar farm, scheduled for 2021, will be 80 acres and will produce 16 megawatts of solar power to help reduce dependency on traditional fossil fuel energy.
The town of Logansport, Indiana, is closing its last coal power plant and replacing it with a lovely solar farm complete with pollinator habitat to attract bees and butterflies.
The new solar farm, scheduled for 2021, will be 80 acres and will produce 16 megawatts of solar power for the city and surrounding areas, helping to reduce dependency on traditional fossil fuel energy.
According to Inhabitat, “Inovateus Solar, headquartered in South Bend, is developing the solar installation for Logansport Municipal Utility (LMU). The project will take place on a former farmland near the city’s light industrial area. LMU aims to reduce its carbon emissions and help stabilize customer costs. The solar farm will generate enough power for about 3,700 homes.”
While more renewable energy is always a plus, I’m personally very excited to hear about the pollinator habitat.
Under the solar panels, the city will be planting a pollinator seed mix designed to attract up to 430 species of bees and 140 species of butterflies.
This influx of bees and butterflies will be good for local farmers and will help these species to thrive. It doesn’t hurt that they’re also really pretty for passersby.
The only thing I like more than environmentalism is environmentalism with butterflies.
